What’s The Reason To Play As A Priest In World Of Warcraft?
The most common mistaken thought that online gamers usually have is that in the World of Warcraft, the highly popular online game from Blizzard-Activision, priests are designed as healers.
This, naturally, is only marginally true.
Priests possess healing spells, indeed. But as is usually the case, they are asked to do damage.
Nihilum, the MMORPG’s top guild which traces their roots in the European servers, once said the famous declaration: “in Nihilum, our pallies heal, our shammies are healers and our priests are damage dealers.” If a widely admired guild like Nihilum compels their priests to do some damage, then by Arthas’ frozen nostrils you can bet that the entire World of Warcraft community will follow suit.
Priests have the choice to be a healer or to do damage. But priests are no longer the most potent healbots in the World of Warcraft since the arrival of the Burning Crusade expansion. Restoration-specced druids have more effective HOTs (heals over time) than priests. Paladins are more reliable single target healers compared to priests. And shamans are better multi-target healers compared to priests.
As healers, priests can be viewed as students of many crafts but a mentor of none. They have fast heals, serviceable heals over time, and multi-target heals, but they’re easily not as effective with these as the other healing classes.
Hence, if they’re no longer the main healbots in the game, what should they be doing come tailend content in 25 man raids? Two purposes actually.
First, as we have discussed before, priests are expected to deal some heavy DPS. Focusing on shadow talents is recommended for this, what with many direct damage spells from the dark arts.
Second, priests serve one critical function: mana batteries. Priests have special moves that hasten the mana refueling of magic users belonging to the same party. It is for this reason priests are placed in the same group with magic users – usually healers – in 25 man raids.
Priests are one of the fastest classes in soloing to level 70. Before level 40, priests rely on wands as their main damage dealing instrument. But by level 40, most priests dedicate themselves to shadow just to acquire shadow form, the ultimate game breaker for the class. Shadow form allows tremendouamazing increase in the shadow damage unleashed by priests.
Shadow priests are highly effective killers. It will take a shadow priest approximately one-fourth of the time it will take a warrior to kill a specific mob.
Whether as healers or as DPSers, priests are a great class that will vindicate your decision to roll one.
