Protect Your PC from Internet Speed Monitor and Malware in General
Malware is the umbrella phrase used to describe all malicious programs that are installed onto your computer without your consent. People often use the terms malware, spyware, adware and viruses interchangeably. While there are differences between them the one thing they all have in common is their ability to cause some kind of harm or nuisance to your computer or computing experience.
Spyware and adware are types of programs that get installed on your computer through a software install or by visiting certain websites and clicking on misleading pop-ups. They gather information about your internet searching habits and transmit that information to advertisers who then assail you ith their ads. Once your computer is infected with these parasites your computing experience will be significantly affected.
Your computer will invariably run much more slowly as the programs use up your system’s resources. Your internet speed will also be reduced as your bandwidth is sucked up by the pop-up ads assailing you. Keeping your computer clean of malware will greatly improve your computing experience.
Anti-spyware is a must as well. It will detect malware such as Internet Speed Monitor and prevent it from installing itself on your computer. As with anti-virus software, you must run the updates regularly otherwise you wont’ be fully protected. Run the program on your computer weekly to check for spyware that may have made it through before you did an update. A program that automatically updates for you is ideal.
Updating your software installs additional code to the program allowing it to fight against the latest threats. It is recommended to update your anti-virus software once a week and at the same time to scan your computer for existing spyware. I personally use a program called Spybot which is both very effective and free.
The next step is to make sure that you have installed a firewall program. A firewall is a program that protects your computer from outsiders accessing your private date via the internet. A firewall is a necessity for any computer that accesses the internet. You can purchase Firewall programs or use the Firewall program that comes with your Windows operating system. To find Windows firewall go to Control Panel then Security Center.
Early detection of malware that has been installed on your computer is important. It gives you the ability to remove it before you encounter any serious problems.
