Offsite Data Backup – You Can’t Afford Not To Have It
So you tried to turn on your computer and… Nothing happened? Smoke is coming out the back? Wow! No problem, right? You had everything backed up, and all you need to do now is to buy a new computer and restore your data. OR not! Because chances are you had nothing backed up, and you wish you had looked into offsite data backup when you had the chance.
Everyone who has a computer will admit that they are totally negligent when it comes to backing up their work. It’s not always as easy as we think, and it does take time to select files, watch them back up, and then go on with our lives. Even though there are some software programs that help to facilitate this process, the programs themselves are anything but user friendly, and carry some hefty price tags.
The smart computer owners, however, probably ran out years ago to buy their first external hard drive. And once they felt safe and secure knowing it was there, they totally neglected to use it! And chances are with that hard drive sitting in a corner somewhere nearby, the computer died again, and once again, everything was lost.
And it never fails. The morning after we write a yellow sticky note and put it on our computer monitor (“do backup in AM”), that is the morning that you find out your computer died in its sleep. Too late for backups!
At this point you should be looking into offsite backup options. There are so many reliable alternatives to the stand alone external hard drive that you don’t use!
The trick is to find a way to do your backups offsite, automatically. Some companies are set up so that all you get is literally offsite storage on their servers. This may not be much help if you couldn’t find the time to back up on your own external drive; you probably won’t find the time to back up your files on anyone else’s either.
Offsite storage is an excellent alternative. For a very affordable method, get an annual membership to an online site that provides automatic regular backups that happen on their own – you don’t need to do a thing. If anything happens, all your updates and your new documents are safe. Even if your computer dies – the files can be restored to your new computer within a few hours. Get yourself a plan before it’s too late!
