Improving Printer Performance With New Drivers

Your computer is actually just a collection of external hardware pieces that work together in order to allow you to do different things.Drivers are like the strings that allow the puppet (in this case, Windows) to move together in the proper way.

Drivers are basically small pieces of software that enable Windows to communicate with your external hardware equipment.  This means that there are drivers for your mouse, keyboard, monitor, video card, sound card, digital camera, scanner, printer, and more.

Your printer is one example of a hardware device that definitely needs the correct driver. Some computers can be used in a “plug and play” way, meaning that you just plug the printer in and Windows runs it using a plain vanilla Windows driver.  However, if your printer came with special features they might not be available or usable unless you install the driver from the manufacturer.  Printer drivers are manufacturer specific, so if you have a Sharp printer you’ll need Sharp printer drivers.

Most hardware devices come with a driver CD with the driver on it, but you’d be surprised that not every hardware has a driver CD.  However, many hardware companies update their drivers continually to work out bugs and improve performance.By the time the printer drivers CD gets to your house in your printer’s box, however, it’s usually already out of date.

The only way to really distribute driver updates to the public is through the internet.  This means that finding and updating your printer drivers can be somewhat confusing, especially for someone who is not that computer savvy. If you want to get your driver updates automatically then it might be a good idea to check out a driver update software program.

If you’re not really a computer person, and finding and updating your drivers sounds daunting, then using a driver update software program might be just the answer. These software tools work by scanning your computer, find what hardware is installed, and then download the latest driver automatically. All you have to do is click a button. They are very fast and easy to use.  I use DriverCure myself on my own computer and find it to be very helpful.
