How Much Does Sharepoint Cost

You already see that you need Sharepoint if you want your organization to prosper. Now, the question is, how much will it exactly cost?

I will now answer you this question with a bit of detail, since it’s not a very simple answer.

In order to get started, you first need to know that you need a license for the Windows servers, which also costs. An authorized partner is the best place to get the price from. For instance, you can try GSR, which is a gold-certified Microsoft partner.

So the cost has a web of its own. The cost is structured by the server node. Every server in the environment should be licensed by Windows server 2003 or a latter edition. You also need licensing of database software. SQL can help here. It is best for mid-size or large installations.

Sharepoint, and its licensing:

Windows Sharepoint Services will be installed as a part of the OS. The license can come as an Enterprise configuration or in a Standard configuration. You choose from one of those two based on the size of your organization.

Expense of hardware:

For customers, Microsoft recommends the use of the multi-processor 64 bit servers with 2 GB of RAM. It is an estimation that you will probably allocate about 400 users to one machine. If you want to support 4000 users and you need more scalability, a server farm of 3 servers will help a lot. It it crucial that you manage to make a cluster for redundancy and high availability. You will need more server in order to do that.
